Our Ethics
Ethical Principles for Microbiome Research within microARCH Research Team
1.) We acknowledge the history of anthropological genomics and power dynamics that exist between researchers, communities, and other stakeholders. We will work to dismantle these dynamics and encourage collaborative, inclusive research practices.
2.) We acknowledge the connections between Ancestors and descendant communities, and research without our team strives to ask sound scientific questions that improve human lives and put descendant communities’ interests first.
3.) We also acknowledge that individuals have rights in microbiome research, including both human and non-human microbial research, and are working to ensure that microbiome samples are treated as human samples.
4.) We strive to make microbiome research accessible to anyone, regardless of background, ethnicity, training, or education, and work to make our research team an inclusive learning environment.
