About

Racial and ethnic health disparities are a well-known norm within the US healthcare system. Periodontal disease is an oral health condition that is among the many health disparities in the US. The prevalence of periodontal disease among the US adult population is highest among Mexican American and non-Hispanic Blacks. The aims of this study are to 1) analyze the relationship between oral microbial composition and periodontal severity 2) analyze the relationship between microbial composition and race/ ethnicity and 3) explore which modern social/environmental factors impact oral health disparities.
